In statements to journalists, the owner of a mini-market in the town of Nova Sintra, José Baptista, considered that the situation regarding frozen food shipments on the CV Interilhas is quite worrying, considering that the products are taking a long time to reach their destination.
"We had placed an order for some frozen products last Tuesday, April 4, and they should have arrived at Brava on Thursday of the same week. However, so far we haven't received our goods and this is a lack of respect from this company towards its customers," he said.
José Baptista also considered that the municipality of Brava was and always is in last place in everything, health, transportation and even water, since this liquid is a basic necessity, but that on the island its lack has become normal.
"They said that maritime transport has improved, and I don't agree, that is, it may have improved when it's for passenger travel, but for us who have commercial establishments and usually receive goods, it hasn't improved one bit," he criticized.
According to this shopkeeper, the government needs to "be more considerate of the people of the island of Brava and not just leave it to campaign time to come up with lots of false promises".
"We are also Cape Verdeans, we have our businesses and we also have bills to pay, so I appeal to those in authority to pay more attention and improve the situation of the traders in this municipality, because we are the ones who supply this municipality with food and other products," he stressed.
For his part, Diamantino Oliveira, a shopkeeper from the town of Furna, who also shares the same opinion, pointed out that frozen cargo from the city of Praia most often arrives in "terrible condition".
As I said, they sometimes place a shipping order, but the goods usually take three or four days to reach their destination and by the time they receive the goods, they are already in poor condition.
"Last week, when the ship couldn't sail due to bad weather, our products didn't arrive for days and when they did, they were in a sorry state and if there was a health inspection, they certainly wouldn't let us receive the goods," he said.
Diamantino Oliveira concluded that this situation has been repeated frequently and called on those in charge of the CV Interilhas company to be more considerate towards the traders and the population of Brava.
